We are committed to providing children with an atmosphere conducive to learning, but our commitment does not end there. We know that children at this age learn by paying attention to our actions, therefore it is of utmost importance that we, as a staff, treat each other with respect. Parents can enjoy a great deal of peace and assurance that their child is in an environment in which he or she can safely learn, play and grow.
Security cameras are installed throughout the learning center in each room, the front lobby and the playground area, allowing us to keep an eye on activities all throughout the day. Cameras ensure that we have a record of what is happening during learning sessions and recess time. The cameras also give us the ability to see all people entering and exiting the center, as well. For an added level of security, there is a keypad lock at the front door so that only those who are authorized to do so can enter the building, preventing unauthorized persons from walking in.
We have also made the process of a picking up children more secure with fingerprinting. This means that anyone picking up their son or daughter must have their identity confirmed, which removes a level of stress and confusion that can occur during pick-up time. No staff member ever has to wonder or check to see if a person is cleared to pick up a child from the center, meaning that there are no staff member judgement calls as to who is able to pick up a child.
Many of our other safety practices focus on keep children from hurting themselves. For example, during inclement weather or storms, outside playtime is canceled. This policy keeps children out of danger if the weather is severe, and also keeps them from getting soaked in the rain when they may not have a change of clothing.
We also require students wear seatbelts on all field trips. Any student who does not follow these safety instructions will not be allowed to attend community field trips. And, of course, no child will be allowed on any field trip without a parent’s signed permission slip. This requirement allows the staff to know the exact number of children that should be attending the trip and returning to the school.
As we head into 2016, those who will continue from last year along with new enrollees, will be in an environment where they can learn and play safely.
