Does the staff have current CPR and First Aid Certifications?
Yes. We require that all staff be up to date on CPR and First Aid Certification
What time does my child need to be dropped off?
We encourage that all children are dropped off no later than 8:30 am to enjoy breakfast before their day begins. All circle time activities will begin at 9:00 am.
What happens if a child becomes sick?
Steadfast Academy follows all health/communicable disease policies as outlined in the American Academy of Pediatrics Model Health Policies and Procedures Manual. A copy of this manual is on file with the Center Director and is available upon request for review.
Parents are required to pick up an ill child within 1 hour of notification by phone. If a parent is reached, but cannot pick their child up within1 hour, it becomes the parent’s responsibility to arrange for alternate pick up with someone listed on the child’s emergency contact form. The staff will not continue to call those listed on the emergency contact list once a parent is reached. If a parent cannot be reached, the staff will begin to call the people listed on the emergency contact form, until arrangements can be made for the child to be picked up.
Children will be excluded from participation in the program if they exhibit symptoms of any communicable disease. They will not be permitted to return to the program until they are no longer contagious. Guidelines for determining the contagious period for a specific illness are based on the recommendations by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Children must present a doctor’s note stating they are no longer contagious and can return to the program. Steadfast Academy reserves the right to refuse to allow a child to return if the center director or designee believes the child to be too ill to participate in the program.
Children excluded from the program due to a fever may not return to the program until they are fever free, without fever reducing medication, for 24 hours. If your child is sent home due to a fever, he/she is not permitted to return to the program the following day at a minimum. A fever is defined as a temperature reading on a thermometer of at least 101 degrees Fahrenheit.
Children are required to be excluded from the program for lose bowels or diarrhea which occur 3 or more times in a 24 hours’ period of time. Children may return to the program when normal bowel movements resume.
What if my child needs medication?
Steadfast Academy will give medicine at 11:00 am and 3:00 pm daily.
Steadfast Academy will only dispense over-the-counter and/or prescription medication that is in original, labeled containers, with explicit dosage and administration instructions.
Parents are required to complete a Medication Form for medication that is to be dispensed. Medication Forms can be found on the front desk. Medication Forms, doctor’s notes and medication are to be turned into the front office.
Steadfast Academy will dispense over-the-counter, fever reducing/pain medication (ex. Children’s Tylenol, Children’s Motrin) on an as needed basis. You may be required to provide a doctor’s note detailing the appropriate dosage. Parents are required to supply a bottle of the fever reducing/pain medication clearly labeled with their child’s name. If the child’s age is not on the medication we must have a doctor’s permission and dosage amount in order to give it to you child. Staff will inform the parent or emergency contact person if it is necessary for the child to be picked up due to illness. Refer to the policy listed above regarding picking up ill children.
Parents are responsible for ensuring that all prescription medication is properly labeled by a pharmacist and replaced prior to the expiration date.
Parents are NOT allowed to place any medication in a bottle or cup that is brought into the center.
When is naptime and where does my child sleep?
Children involved in our program need some portion of the day to rest and relax. Infants nap in assigned cribs according to their own individual schedules. Each infant must also have a sleep sack (no blankets are allowed in cribs). Infants, six months and younger are placed on their back to sleep. This practice is required by Childcare Licensing. The only exception is if the infant can roll over on his own. Any other exception to this recommended practice must be made in writing by the child’s physician. Toddlers and preschoolers rest on an assigned mat each day after lunch. All children are given the opportunity to sleep if they require the rest. Please provide your child with a small blanket and pillow that fits inside of his cubby or backpack.
Will my child participate in field trips?
Field trips to places of interest in the community may be scheduled. Typically, during summer months your child may enjoy 2 field trips per week. When taking a field trip, the safety of your child is our primary concern. Children must be four years or older to go on any field trips. In advanced of each trip, you will be notified of the details and your written permission will be required for each trip. Children on a field trip are required to adhere to safety control standards, such as buckled seatbelts. Children who do not adhere to the safety standards will not be allowed to participate in future field trips
