Stress Management Tips for Parents

Stress Management Tips

There’s no doubt about it—parenting can be stressful. You’re juggling a full-time job with being a full-time parent, and while your kids are adorable, they do sometimes misbehave! Your anxiety and stress will affect your kids over time, so it’s best to learn and practice simple stress management tips and relaxation exercises.

Here are some of our best stress management tips for parents:

Try some deep breathing

It may sound simple, but it really works. By calming your breath, you’ll calm your mind as well. We like lying down in a quiet room to do our deep breathing, but in a pinch it can work in line at the grocery store.

Take a mental vacation

Our bodies tend to respond to stressful mental images as though they were real, so why wouldn’t the opposite also be true? Take a deep breath and imagine the most relaxing situation you can. Experience the situation, whether it’s a mountaintop hike or a relaxing day at the beach, with all your senses. What do you smell? Taste? Hear?

Seek professional help

Talking to a qualified therapist can help relieve your day-to-day anxiety while assisting you in finding coping mechanisms for when stressful situations arise. They may also be able to help you find strategies for addressing your child’s behavioral issues.

Exercise

What? You’re asking me to add one more thing to my to-do list? Yes, and it’s worth it—exercise can boost your endorphins, relieve stress and provide you with some much-needed “you time.”
